Hello lovelies! As you can probably tell from the title already, I have FINALLY FINISHED “The Master’s Sun”, which I have been meaning to watch for weeks! Now that I have finished, I am left in a state of pure desire to see them in action very soon (may be a CF or something) because my heart can’t bear the fact that all of it is over.
So, without further ado, here is the review!!! (Spoiler free, but still read at your own risk!)
Anyway, back onto the matter at hand. Once again, the Hong Sisters have not failed to make me follow a drama like a dog following a bone after days of starvation. It got me hooked ever since the beginning, and continued to spark my interest throughout. Honestly, the Sisters are a hit-or-miss for me; they can either produce something that it out of this world, or totally sink to the bottom of the ocean. For this drama, they aimed for the stars, and got there!
Now moving on to what I loved and not-really enjoyed about the drama.
What I loved:
1. The storyline
Storylines are crucial for any successful drama. I mean, what’s the point in staring at handsome and beautiful people for hours if they don’t do something progressive? Since this drama posed a pretty unique storyline from your typical dramas (the drama was even claimed to be a new genre: ro-comic-horror), it is without doubt that many would have been drawn to it. But, don’t be discouraged! The drama actually is 90% rom-com, while the remainder makes up the horror component.
2. The characters
This was definitely the main reason why I started downloading the drama without any hesitation. The thought of having both So Gan-Ji and Gong-vely (their nicknames tehe) TOGETHER in a drama…yep, SO watching it!
And it’s not just the two main leads that continue to keep viewers hooked. The whole cast does a fantastic job in establishing their character, and don’t progress through the drama changing from one person to another (God, I hate it when they do that!)
My absolute fav (apart from the leads) was Secretary Kim! An absolute lovable and adorable character to watch. Seeing him watch over Joong Won like a father watching over his son, whilst at times telling him off like a best friend, was so heart-warming that there was no way you could hate the man.
And the other character who I absolutely adored was Joo Joong Won! So Ji Sub did a fantastic portrayal at the character, and it is to say without the need to explain that without him, Master’s Sun couldn’t have been successful as it is!
And, do you see those gifs online?! Best things ever! So Ji Sub expressions 101 😛
What I disliked:
There truthfully isn’t much to hate or dislike about this drama! The last episode ties everything together, and explains tons of things that hasn’t been clarified, except for one thing.
The reason why Joong Won is capable of being a defensive shield for Gong Sil.
Never has the drama explained the reason why they ended up together. Sure , to many fans of the drama (me included), WHO GIVES A CRAP?! But still, that is one loose string that hasn’t been tied. They even explain about the Coffee Ghost’s story, but not how Joong Won can shoo ghosts away by just simply touching Gong Sil.
Favourite Moment:
Definitely the whole “Three Bears” scene in Episode 12! Ohhhhhh the entire scene itself was SOOOO epic! Kept replaying it over and over again!
So, this drama has been an absolute joy to watch, and it has been quite hard to let go of it since finishing it. There have been some dramas in my life which I have found difficulty letting go, and this one definitely comes on top. It’s difficult to imagine it continue onwards to become another season (practically impossible), but I do hope to see both of them team up again for another project, possibly a mini series, or on a variety show of some sort. It’s been too hard to forget these two, especially since their chemistry was SOOO good.
I will dearly miss both Gong Sil and Joong Won, but I hope to see Hyo Jin and Ji Sub together very soon~~ I’ve been hunting their BTS videos ever since (I’ve found them, watched them and then finally downloaded them…something is very wrong with me)…confessions of a kdrama maniac I guess…
If you’ve been hesitating to watch this drama for one reason or another, do go out and find it and watch it. You won’t regret it, trust me!
Hope you guys enjoyed this review, and I’ll definitely be back real soon to post something else! Thanks for reading~~

Ooooh, thank you so much for these wonderful gifs! Now I don’t have to hunt through the episodes to get my fix of So Ji Sub cuteness! Sometimes I just love my “click right and download” button! ; )
I am always happy when I stumble upon a KDrama gem and Master’s Sun definitely fits the bill! I really hope there’s another drama that will catch my interest (^ ^)v
Best wishes from a fellow (and very selective) Kdrama addict!^^

I was googling on gyh n sjs n chance upon your site. Whut attracted me to your site was your title head for this page. You know its been ages I watched a drama and had a fuzzy-wuzzy feeling. And I felt it when I was watching this drama. It felt too real too good that their chemistry works so mysteriously well. They look like teens in love which helps us recall a moment of lovey-dovey n happiness in life. Being comfortable with someone is something but to be in love is everything! I hope too so hard they both can become a real-life couple. And that will pull through their hardships in their relationship (if they made it). Because love overcomes all.. 🙂

Thank you for your comment! I knew that it wasn’t just me who thought that their chemistry was too good to be true! Sure, the on-screen time may just be good acting, but off-screen? Someone please explain that to me LOL! And second to your last comment; love will overcome all 🙂

Im not a big fan of TMS at first, especially for the 1st 5 episodes but as the story unfolds i have to say that I didn’t have enough sleep for the following episodes of TMS. I definitely not a SJS Or HJ fan but their chemistry in this drama totally amazed me. And yes, I also got the symptoms of missing this drama when it ends. I even watch their video in youtube. In short, i cant get enough of them! Che-bal! Please do another project / drama together… Uwaaaaa and last but not least… I love Hong Sister! XD
EVERYONE HAVE TO WATCH THIS! ITS BETTER THAN THE HEIRS! ❤ ❤ ❤

Thank you for your lovely comment and yes, I totally agree that everyone should totally check out this drama. Not only is it a work from the Hong Sisters (all hail them, I swear!) but seriously, a couple with this much chemistry on-screen AND off-screen, what is there not to like about this drama?! I will wait until the day comes when they will meet up for another project ^^
