“The Legend of Hua Mulan” Review: This 3-day marathon’s worthiness is questionable….

花木兰传奇

Overall Review:

A drama that was captivating, until we reached the halfway mark, literally. By then, a mentally strong individual must endure the greatest of mental hardships.

Hey hey guys, it’s Hyunnie back again! As you may have noticed, it is indeed the holiday season right now in Australia (I don’t need to return to uni until the end of February!), and so I have a lot more time on my hands to catch up with dramas, movies, music, variety shows – you name it. On a side note, I’ve noticed that I had a lot of really positive feedback from my last review; thank you all so much everyone and I hope that you will enjoy this review as well 😉

Today’s post is about a C-Drama (first C-Drama review of the year, whoop whoop!) which I had marathoned in three days (I know, the skills lol). The more impressive fact is that it was 48 episodes long…yes you read that right. With each episode being 40 or so minutes, that means that I finished 32 hours in three days…that probably seems more frightening than impressive huh?

Anyway, I came across this drama by accident. It appeared on my ‘recommended page’ on YouTube, after I newly subscribed to a channel that posts C-Dramas, with most of them English subbed (which truthfully I don’t actually need, but don’t mind having :D) With Hua Mulan being one of my most favourite females in all of Chinese history, I was certainly interested as to how this would turn out. And, although expectations are never something entirely negative, it was sad to realise after I had reached the halfway mark, that this drama was perhaps not the one I was seeking for…but I will discuss that later on.

Okay, before I end up revealing the entire drama in just the introduction itself, shall we start??

The one and only Wax (왁스) returns with her new project album “Spark(스파크)”: Unni, you are one amazing woman!

2014-10-06 23_09_14-Greenshot

From “Half Love, Left Hidden”

What’s up everyone, Hyunnie here! I am finally back from a very lengthy hiatus! As I have explained in my previous post, I’ve been busy trying to finish off a couple of assessments (major essays for example), fighting off a bad case of the flu, and also been trying to cope with my first days of practical at a high school! So, August & September have just been such a hectic time period for me, and I do apologise for disappearing for so long! I’ll try and get back into the routine again, but I have to admi, that is certainly easier said than done!

Today’s post is about Wax unni’s newest album “Spark”, which was released on the 26th August. I have been a huge fan of Wax ever since I discovered her song Coin Laundry (사랑한 적도 없는) at the beginning of the year (“Coin Laundry” is still a song that I love and play all the time!) so when I heard that she was releasing a new album, I literally freaked out and jumped up and down for about 10 minutes straight! The sad thing about this, is that I feel that she is so underrated, despite her being in the business for almost 15 years. Therefore, I hope that this post will bring more awareness about her, and encourage you all to go and check her out; she is amazing! If you want to read more about her, here is a nice post written by Soompi about her background and some of her greatest hits.

Alright, enough chit-chat and let’s get started with this review!

“Fall in Love with Me (愛上兩個我)” Review: HUH?! IT ENDED?! And, where the hell have I been?!

050E0000533E5BAE67379F7DF40CA76C

Overall Review:

A drama that did not have much potential to begin with, and sadly the drama just went through with that momentum. A real disappointment that did not even live to the already lowered-expectations.

Hello~~ It is so nice to be back! If you all were wondering why I just randomly disappeared, well there are a couple of reasons behind that. Some of them include a load of uni work, some full days spent at work, a day at my professional placement in an actual high school (which was truly an eye-opening and inspiring experience!) ya know, ‘life stuff’. The main reason, however, is that I was (and still am) fighting off a bad case of the flu, which gradually transformed into a fever, and has now left me with the remaining symptoms of a cold. I rarely ever get sick, but when I do, I swear I take a millennia to fight it off *sigh* I’ve just not been well to sit down in front of a computer and type endlessly for hours. So, sorry guys about that ><

Anyway, as the title may have already hinted, it is time for another review, and surprisingly enough, this is my first ever Taiwanese Drama review! How weird/cool is that?! The even-more surprising thing about this is, is that I never knew that the drama ended until a couple of days ago! Yes, I totally thought that this drama had at least another 10 episodes to go (though, plot-wise, it makes perfect sense) But, hey hey, it has ended and now comes the review! Thus, let us all start to slowly part ways with “Fall In Love With Me” (愛上兩個我)!

Current trek with “Fall In Love With Me” (愛上兩個我) [EP 3-11] – IT’S GETTING BETTER, HONEST!!!

Haha another poster pic! This one looks cuter >//<

Haha another poster pic! This one looks cuter >//<

Soooo, I am back with my updated/current trek with “Fall In Love With Me” (愛上兩個我). We have just reached the third-way mark (does that make sense people?? Does it??) of the drama and can I just say that initially, perhaps I was too quick to judge this drama. Sure, the drama is not exactly the most amazing one I’ve watched in a while, but the drama is definitely having those moments where it just suddenly shines through.

So, this post is just here to let you guys know how I’m finding the drama so far, and whether or not I would consider following the drama to the end. Also, this isn’t exactly a recap post (I can’t write proper recaps, trust me! I don’t believe that I am worthy of it!) but I can’t guarantee that I will avoid spoilers. Of course, I will try to not say too much, but no guarantees can be made here hehe!

Note: Just as a fun fact, both my Chinese and legal name are used as characters in the drama! Helen is my legal name, and Huan Huan (歡歡) is my Chinese name. It gets real weird when both are in the same scene; I feel as if they are all calling me LOLOL!

*clears throat* So, apart from the slightly awkward fun fact, let’s get busy!

Anyway, today I will be discussing my first impressions of the new Taiwanese drama “Fall in Love with Me”, and also let you guys know whether or not I will still continue checking this drama out. Soooo, let’s get started!!

Girl’s Day’s “Something” is out, and it’s looking to be like Hyuna and the girls, but instead it’s Minah…*sigh* here we go again…

Hello, hello and I am back with my first K-pop review of the year!!! WOW, it has been such a long time; I almost forgot how reviews actually work around here LOLOLOL as if that could happen ><

Beautiful, sexy ladies...geez, as a woman myself I'm a bit thrown back as to how perfect they look >//<

Beautiful, sexy ladies…geez, as a woman myself I’m a bit thrown back as to how perfect they look >//<

Anyway, the first review of the year is Girl’s Day first comeback of the year called “Something”, which came out on the 3rd this month. The song is great, and reminds us of what Girl’s Day is capable of doing. However, the MV itself may speak a different story…is it just me, or is it a bit too Minah-biased?

If ya agree or wanna know what I’m talking about then please keep reading!

The Asia Reviewer Maniac Awards 2013 – Part 1 of 2

Hahaha what a cheesy title huh?I AM BACK FROM THE DEAD!!! Finally! After suffering from days of no blogging, I’m finally able to come back with this; the Asia Reviewer Maniac Awards of 2013! Yes I know, a bit late past Christmas but hey, Christmas is family time peoples; I had to spend it with some of the special people in my life (even though you readers count as a portion of that, sorry!)

2013 has been a huge year for Asian pop culture, whether it is music, dramas or even animes. In particular, Kpop has been huge this year, where the international community has also begun to notice even more about what Korean music has to offer. Nonetheless, other aspects of Asian pop culture such as anime, dramas and other styles of music have also been shone in the spotlight and has been taken notice by other parts of the world as well. God I’m so proud to be Asian :3

Alright so the awards are all based on my own personal opinion, and also what I have been able to see and discover this year. Yes, there will be some categories which will be slightly lacking than others, but please understand that I am but only one person, and it is simply not possible to get around to everyone and everything >< If you aren’t that satisfied with the results I’ve concluded with, then leave a comment below stating what or who you think should have won what category. Also, if you haven’t noticed already from my blog site, it is pretty Kpop biased, so the Kpop section of the awards will take a major portion of the awards lol. Hope you all don’t mind that! And so, here goes!

K-pop

The list below I discovered from Saphirya’s Kpop Award 2013 blog post. She has given a fantastic list, which is what I have based my results from. Go check out her blog site for more Kpop awesomeness! http://saphirya.com/

30 day Kpop Challenge – Day 6: hmmm does this actually count?? Oops…

Day 6: Your favourite k-pop song from your favourite girl group

Hello chubby bunnies! (I know, how cheesy~)

So, for my favourite song from f(x)…I do realise that it’s kind-of cheating because there are only 3 members involved in the song, and it also is in collaboration with another singer from another group. But, it still counts, right?
